Fantasy Football: Start or sit for Falcons vs. Jets

0
0

Things hit a new low for Atlanta’s offense in last weekend’s 23-7 loss to the Patriots, with the only Falcons touchdown coming late in garbage time. It won’t get much better for fantasy players this week as Atlanta goes up against an offensively-challenged Jets team.

Here’s a look at who to start and sit for this Sunday’s game.

QBs: Start Matt Ryan, sit Josh McCown

Matt Ryan continues to be a byproduct of an offense without an identity. The Falcons have lacked explosive plays and the ability to sustain long drives. As a result, Ryan has just seven touchdowns to go with interceptions. Still, against the Jets’ 20th-ranked pass defense, Ryan has a chance at a big day in terms of yardage.

Unless you’re playing in a very deep league, chances are you aren’t playing Josh McCown anyway. The journeyman has been better than you’d think in 2017 as he is coming off of two really solid games. Last week, he accounted for four total touchdowns and topped 350 yards the previous week against the Patriots.

Looking at his entire body of work, however, shows that those past two games were far from the norm. McCown has thrown for under 200 yards three times this season. While he may not be the worst start, there are many better options.

RBs: Start Devonta Freeman, sit Bilal Powell

Devonta Freeman hasn’t been dominant over the first six games, yet is on pace for over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns. After Steve Sarkisian was criticized for not getting the ball to Freeman enough last week, there will be no excuse against the Jets’ 28th-ranked rush defense.

On the other side, the Jets run the ball well but their rushing attack is more of a by-committee approach. Bilal Powell is the frontrunner and despite averaging 4.7 yards per carry, he likely won’t get the volume to be worthy of a start. You had better be pretty desperate to put any Jets running backs in your lineup.

WR: Start Julio Jones, sit Sanu, Anderson, Kearse

Jones had 99 yards and his first touchdown of the season last week, but overall hasn’t quite been himself in 2017. Matt Ryan has targeted Jones nearly 25% of the time, which keeps him a must-start for the rest of the season.

Outside of Julio, this game is not exactly filled with game-breaking wideouts. Mohamed Sanu hasn’t cracked 100 yards yet this year, and the Jets don’t have a go-to wide receiver. Both Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse have over 300 yards, but neither can be counted on week-to-week.

TEs: Sit Austin Hooper and Austin Seferian-Jenkins

Austin Hooper opened the season with what looked to be a breakout game, but his contributions have been very minimal in the five games since. He’s capable of getting a few big chunk plays, but don’t bet on it.

As far as New York is concerned, Seferian-Jenkins is their best option at tight end. With under 200 total receiving yards this season though, his upside is extremely limited. This is not a game where you’re going to find good or even decent tight end play.

Defense/ST: Start Atlanta, sit New York

Atlanta’s defense is loaded with young playmakers, and without any real dominant offensive pieces on the Jets, it could be a good showing for Dan Quinn’s defense. New York isn’t a terrible option, especially with Atlanta in one hell of an offensive slump.

Neither defense is really a great option, but you could do worse than the Falcons this week.

5 predictions for Falcons vs. Jets Week 8 matchup

0
0

After starting the year 3-0, the Atlanta Falcons have lost three straight and reached a critical point in their season. There’s plenty of football left to be played, but with the offensive struggles this team has shown in recent weeks, a 3-4 start might be too much to recover from.

Here are five predictions for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Win or lose, this game will be a blowout

This is one of those games that probably will be one-sided, whichever way it goes. The Falcons are talented enough to blow out the Jets, especially with the disappointment of recent weeks looming large in their minds. Or the Jets could shock this fragile Atlanta team early and it could go quickly in New York’s direction.

Julio Jones finally legit blows up

Jones had a good game last week, despite the loss. But for Julio to look like his old self again, he needs about 150 yards and two touchdowns. He has not had the kind of game yet in 2017, but with offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian under so much pressure, you can bet Sark will go down throwing the ball to Julio.

100 rushing yards for Devonta Freeman

Freeman is coming off of a game where Atlanta probably should have given him a few more touches. Add that in with the fact that New York has a very poor run defense (28th in yards allowed), and you have the makings of a signature Devonta Freeman game on Sunday in New Jersey.

Josh McCown continues to come up just short

Veteran Jets QB Josh McCown, as I wrote about yesterday in our fantasy start em/sit em piece, has played well enough for the Jets to win most weeks but continues to come up short. Last week, they had the Dolphins dead to rights with McCown accounting for four total touchdowns, but still lost to Miami’s backup quarterback Matt Moore. Expect more of the same now.

Two sacks for Vic Beasley

Beasley has played pretty well following up his outstanding 2016 season. When he’s been out there, he’s caused a lot of pressure, gotten three sacks and has a forced fumble. McCown can be rattled and who better to get him than the NFL’s sack champion?

Experts like Falcons over Jets in Week 8

0
0

The Falcons failed to show up for their Super Bowl rematch in New England last weekend, losing 23-7. They finish off their run of four AFC East opponents in four weeks when they head to MetLife Stadium to play the New York Jets on Sunday.

For Atlanta, this is about as close to a must-win as you can have this early in the season. Let’s see what pundits are predicting for this weekend’s matchup with the Jets.

NFL.com: Falcons

Elliot Harrison likes the Falcons to squeeze out a close one, 23-21.

USA Today: Falcons

Four out of five writers over at USA TODAY like Atlanta’s chances to end their three-game skid.

ESPN: Falcons

After the panel rightfully picked against Atlanta last week, all 11 pundits are rolling with the Falcons in Week 8.

Sports Illustrated: Falcons

The MMQB group is 4-2 in favor of Atlanta.

CBS Sports: Falcons

CBS is just slightly on Atlanta’s side, with five of eight taking the Falcons.

SB Nation: Falcons

SB Nation is 9-0 in favor of Atlanta. Apparently, they aren’t discouraged after the Falcons’ abysmal showing in Week 7.

Falcons release inactives list for Week 8 vs. Jets

0
0

The Atlanta Falcons are in New Jersey today to take on the New York Jets in what promises to be a windy, rainy affair.

Kickoff is less than 90 minutes away and the team just released their inactives list for today’s game.

Here’s a look at who will be sitting out.

Falcons Week 8 inactives

WR Nick Williams
CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson
LB Duke Riley
LB Jordan Tripp
LB Sean Weatherspoon
G Sean Harlow
OT Austin Pasztor

There are no big surprises here. Riley injured his knee last week against the Patriots and is expected to miss the next several games. Weatherspoon was brought in to help replace him but isn’t quite ready to run yet.

As for the Jets, here’s who they will be missing today.

Jets Week 8 inactives

QB Christian Hackenberg
WR Ardarius Stewart
CB Derrick Jones
CB Buster Skrine
LB Obum Gwacham
OL Brandon Shell
TE Jordan Leggett

We don’t know how the Jets expect to compete without Hackenberg in uniform, but they’ll give it a shot anyway.

Falcons now 6.5-point favorites over the Jets

0
0

The Atlanta Falcons opened the week as four-point favorites on the road over the New York Jets, and that number continues to go up.

Despite the Falcons being in the midst of a three-game losing streak, there’s even less faith in the 3-4 Jets, who blew their own big fourth-quarter lead against the Miami Dolphins last week.

As of this morning, the line is now 6.5 points favoring Atlanta, according to Odds Shark. Usually, when the favorite gets more points this late, it’s to entice bettors into taking the underdog.

Our look around the web yesterday showed that almost all major NFL pundits are picking the Falcons to win. Could it be Atlanta is primed for a breakout performance, or just that so few believe Josh McCown and the Jets are capable of closing the deal?

We’re about to find out. Check back for live updates during the game followed by post-game analysis.

Halftime Analysis: Falcons looking sloppy again vs. Jets

0
0

Atlanta played another sloppy half of football and are trailing the Jets 17-13 after Matt Bryant missed a field goal to close out the second quarter.

After giving up an early touchdown on a 20-yard pass from Josh McCown to tight end Eric Tomlinson, the Falcons would answer with a nice drive, resulting with a touchdown pass to Austin Hooper.

Other than that, the first half was pretty frustrating for Steve Sarkisian and the Falcons offense. It wasn’t really on Sark, as the offensive line played poorly and Matt Ryan lost a couple of fumbles.

McCown threw his second touchdown to Robbie Anderson after he burned Desmond Trufant for a pretty 24-yard strike.

Atlanta answered with another solid drive, but as they have all season, they struggled to punch it in. Ryan was twice flushed out of the pocket, eventually getting sacked and wasting another scoring opportunity.

Ryan is 12-for-19 with 145 yards and a touchdown pass. Devonta Freeman rushed seven times for 29 yards, while Tevin Coleman rushed 5 times for 10 yards. Julio Jones has just two catches for five yards and tight end Austin Hooper dropped what should have been an easy touchdown.

Atlanta receives the ball to start the second half.

Julio Jones burns Jets for 54 yards on deep bomb from Matt Ryan

0
0

Julio Jones had a quiet first half against the Jets but finally looked like himself corralling in a deep pass from Matt Ryan for 54 yards.

The big play helped set up a field goal by Matt Bryant. The Falcons still trail the Jets 16-17, though.

Instant Analysis for the Falcons' 25-20 win vs. Jets

0
0

The Atlanta Falcons moved to 4-3 on the season after a 25-20 win over the Jets on Sunday. While they didn’t play their best football, they got key stops when needed and big contributions from their special teams unit.

It wasn’t quite the redemption game Steve Sarkisian and the offense needed, but critical drops along with several fumbles between the quarterback and center get him off the hook for this one. Overall, Atlanta played just well enough to win.

Here are notes from all three phases of the game.

Offense

The offense hit some big plays, yet couldn’t get in the end zone on multiple opportunities. There were plenty of good signs, though, in both the run and pass game.

Tevin Coleman played well, finishing with 104 total yards and a 52-yard run in the third quarter. Wide receiver Mohamed Sanu was Matt Ryan’s favorite target on Sunday. Sanu finished with six catches for 74 yards and a score.

Julio Jones didn’t have his best game but responded from a critical drop with a beautiful 54-yard reception, which led to an Atlanta field goal. Jones had 74 yards on the day.

Starting running back Devonta Freeman had a quiet game, with just 41 yards on twelve carries. Matt Ryan finished 18-for-29 for 254 and two touchdowns. He’d finish with 113.3 QB rating.

Defense

Defensively, there wasn’t too much to complain about on Atlanta’s end. They gave up some big plays to Josh McCown, but played solid overall.

Atlanta’s front four routinely got pressure after the first drive. Takk McKinley was disruptive as he made some big stops and notched a strip sack that the Jets recovered. Grady Jarrett and Dontari Poe both got push up the middle, splitting a sack on McCown.

As the game progressed, the defense seemed to find its groove. The secondary played fast and responded from an average start to come up big at the end of the game.

Keanu Neal stood out all day, while corner Desmond Trufant responded from a bad mistake to get a sack and two solo tackles.

Special Teams

It was an outstanding showing for Atlanta’s special team unit. Kicker Matt Bryant was probably the MVP of the game, going 4-4 on field goals. Punter Matt Bosher stood out at as well, with multiple punts landing inside the Jets’ 10-yard line.

In one of the critical moments in the game, Kemal Ishmael recovered muffed punt with 6:42 left in the third quarter. Andre Roberts ran back a punt for 80-yards, but it was taken back after an illegal block in the back by Atlanta.

Special teams was arguably the difference in this sloppy Falcons victory.

Winners and Losers from Falcons' Week 8 victory over Jets

0
0

Atlanta came away with a much-needed road win over the New York Jets Sunday afternoon, moving to 4-3 and ending a three-game losing streak.

It wasn’t all positive, however. Many of the offensive issues from previous weeks continue to hinder the team.

In a game that could’ve been a blowout, the Falcons needed a stop on the final drive to hold on to a five-point lead. Let’s take a look at the winners and losers from the game.

Winners

Mohamed Sanu

Sanu was quarterback Matt Ryan’s go-to target, converting multiple third downs, including one in the red zone for a touchdown. He and Julio Jones each finished with 74 receiving yards. It was the timeliness and clutch quality of Sanu’s production that was so impressive.

Matt Bryant

You can’t ignore the impact of Atlanta’s special teams in Sunday’s win. In a game that the offense couldn’t punch it in end zone, kicker Matt Bryant had to come to the rescue. He hit all four of his field-goal opportunities. Bryan’s longest was a 45-yarder as the first half expired.

Matt Bosher

Bosher was outstanding, averaging 42.8 yards per punt, including a 55-yard punt in the fourth quarter. A muffed punt was recovered by backup linebacker Kemal Ishmael, which may have been the turning point in the game. Bosher won’t get much credit, but down the stretch, his punting was huge.

Losers

Alex Mack

Mack had loads of trouble snapping the ball, which caused multiple bad exchanges that led to turnovers. There has to be some blame on Ryan for this as well. It can be argued that the rain impacted Mack, but for a center with his level of experience, it was a disappointing day.

Steve Sarkisian

Sarkisian is breathing a sigh of relief. This game will likely cool off his seat just a bit. However, if not for some great plays from the defense and special teams, the Falcons could have blown their fourth straight game. He has not had success calling plays in the red zone, which there is no excuse for given Atlanta’s wide array of offensive talent.

Dontari Poe, De'Vondre Campbell earn highest PFF grades for Falcons vs. Jets

0
0

Not every big free agent signing works out, but the decision to bring in Dontari Poe is working out great for the Atlanta Falcons. Poe signed a one-year, $8 million deal with Atlanta this past offseason with bonuses that could earn him a couple million more.

So far, that’s proven to be quite a steal.

During Sunday’s 25-20 win over the New York Jets, Poe constantly made his presence felt in the Jets’ backfield. He finished the game with four tackles, two QB hits and a sack he split with Grady Jarrett.

For his efforts, Poe tied for the highest grade of the game (82.8) for the Falcons from Pro Football Focus.

Second-year linebacker De’Vondre Campbell was also rated 82.8. Here’s what it had to say about his game.

In 2016 it was all about Keanu Neal and Deion Jones, and rightfully so with their level of play. But it is another of the class of 2016 who is stepping up right now and it’s Campbell doing that. He recorded four defensive stops, including two tackles for a loss, and after playing 71 percent of snaps as a rookie has played so well as to become a true every-down player for the team. He’s up to 85.1 percent of snaps on the year and enjoying his sophomore leap.

Campbell is easily Atlanta’s most-improved player this season. If he continues to develop, he’ll be a Pro Bowler in no time.

You can find the full game recap for both teams here.

Falcons 2018 free agent target profile: Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson

0
0

After a loss in the divisional round to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, the Falcons are on to 2018. With that in mind, we’ve begun to look at potential free agent targets.

On Tuesday, it was Seahawks defensive end Dion Jordan, today we examine defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson.

Pros:

Wilkerson has been a productive defensive end for the New York Jets since being drafted in the first round back in 2011. It’s been reported that New York will release him and just 28 years old, he will most likely be looking to join a contender at this point in his career.

Wilkerson is freakishly strong, with some versatility to play both inside and outside in a Dan Quinn’s hybrid 4-3 scheme. When engaged, he has been a playmaker capable of wrecking havoc. Wilkerson has two seasons with double-digit sacks and has been a tackling machine, with over 400 combined in his seven NFL seasons.

Cons:

Wilkerson is a better fit schematically in a base 3-4 defense like he played in New York. Dan Quinn values speed over size at most positions except defensive tackle, so it’s unclear if Atlanta would covet his talent as much as some of the other teams that could be interested in signing him.

An even bigger concern could be his perceived poor attitude that caused him to fall out of favor with the Jets. He appeared disinterested and some felt he checked out during portions of last season. The Jets haven’t been relevant for most of Wilkerson’s career, so perhaps he just needs a change of scenery.

Career Stats:

Games Tackles Sacks Forced Fumbles
105 404 44 10

Probability:

Low/Medium

The Falcons may be in the market for a defensive lineman with uncertainty regarding some of their free agents at the position. Wilkerson isn’t a great fit on paper but is talented enough overall that Quinn could find a way to utilize him.

The price tag is up for debate. Wilkerson is an established player with a track record of production, yet great players aren’t usually released at 28 years old without some legitimate reasons. If he’s willing to sign a one-year, prove-it type of deal, then he’d be an intriguing addition to an already talented defensive unit.

Falcons 2018 free agent target profile: Jets TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins

0
0

The Falcons are on to 2018. With that in mind, we’ve begun to look at potential free agent targets for the new league year that begins March 14.

After profiling Eagles tight End Trey Burton last week, today we examine another with Jets tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Pros:

Seferian-Jenkins is coming off a career-best season in terms of catches (50), yards (357) and games played (13) in 2017. The former basketball player is a big, athletic target at 6-foot-5, and is just 25 years old. He has a history with offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian and played well when the two were at the University of Washington together.

Falcons starter Austin Hooper disappointed late last season after a strong start. Seferian-Jenkins looks to be rounding into form and would a more consistent receiving threat over the middle and in the red zone. Signing him could take some pressure off of Hooper and open things up for the Falcons’ many other weapons.

Cons:

ASJ hasn’t really done a whole lot in the NFL. He’s flashed some ability in the red zone, with 10 career touchdowns, but hasn’t always stayed healthy. After four seasons in the NFL, he’s never cracked 400 receiving yards.

While 50 catches for a tight end is really solid production, during his three other seasons, he’d never topped 21 catches. Again, he wasn’t out there very much and hasn’t played over ten games except in 2017. If the price tag is too high, he may be too big of a risk.

Career Stats:

Games Catches Targets Yards TDs
38 105 171 1,070 10

Probability:

Medium

His price tag will likely determine whether the Falcons actually consider him. With the Sark connection, plus the fact that he’s a former second-round pick and just 25, he could be a good signing. Investing a lot of money on a long-term contract may not be wise, even with his high upside.

Former Falcons WR/KR Andre Roberts to sign with Jets

0
0

Andre Roberts was supposed to upgrade the Falcons’ return game after the departure of veteran Eric Weems last year. So much for that idea.

Roberts had a disappointing 2017 season, which saw him make far too many bad decisions as Atlanta’s primary returner. In the end, he averaged just 7.4 yards per punt return and 22.6 yards per kick return.

Fortunately for Roberts, the Jets need all the help that they can get in every phase of the game, so he will still have a job next season.

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, Roberts will be signing with the Jets.

Roberts was also a non-factor on offense. He saw very limited snaps as a wide receiver and only caught one pass for 12 yards.

Expect the Falcons to pick Roberts’ replacement at some point in this year’s draft. Usually the return specialist job goes to an expendable rookie running back, wide receiver or cornerback, which all happen to be needs for Atlanta heading into next season.

Former Falcons FB Derrick Coleman works out for Jets

0
0

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The New York Jets are proof of that.

Last month, the Jets signed former Atlanta Falcons return specialist Andre Roberts despite his having an awful 2017 season. Now they may be lining up to sign another former Atlanta player who struggled last year.

According to a report by Field Yates at ESPN, the Jets are working out former Falcons fullback Derrick Coleman.

Coleman was literally rated as the worst fullback in the NFL last season but he may have some value on special teams, at least for a team like the Jets.

Before he came to Atlanta, Coleman played several years for the Seahawks until a hit-and-run incident involving synthetic marijuana derailed his time there.

Legally deaf, Coleman is an inspiring story for having made it this far. Perhaps another change of scenery is what he needs to get his career back on track.

Falcons preseason: Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman out vs. Jets

0
0

There are no official inactive lists released by NFL teams during the preseason, but there’s always players who sit out.

According to a report by Kimberly Jones at NFL Network, Falcons coach Dan Quinn says that both wide receiver Julio Jones and running back Devonta Freeman will not play during tonight’s exhibition game against the Jets.

Neither player is injured as far as we’re aware and both moves are likely only precautionary. Jones and Freeman are too valuable to risk getting injured during the preseason. This idea was underscored earlier today when we learned Redskins running back and second-round draft pick Derrius Guice tore his ACL in last night’s game against the Patriots and will miss the entire 2018 season.

With Jones and Freeman on the sidelines, expect rookies Calvin Ridley and Ito Smith to get more playing time.

Kicker Matt Bryant and tackle Ty Sambrailo have also been ruled out.

Julio Jones says he'll be 'ready to go' when regular season starts

0
0

Julio Jones won’t be playing for the Falcons tonight in their preseason matchup with the Jets. Along with Devonta Freeman, Matt Bryant, and Ty Sambrailo, he has been ruled out for the game.

Never fear, though.

Jones is just fine and says he will be ready to go when the real games begin, per D. Orlando Ledbetter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Ledbetter also shared some proof that Jones is healthy.

Here’s a video of Jones warming up at MetLife Stadium along with some of his Atlanta teammates.

Looks good to me.

Halftime analysis: Falcons look flat, trail Jets 17-0

0
0

It’s a good thing this game means nothing in the grand scheme of things, because the Falcons came out awfully flat against the Jets.

At halftime, Atlanta trails New York 17-0 and has failed to get anything going offensively, with only 60 total yards gained so far.

Starting quarterback Matt Ryan only threw one ball for -3 yards before coming out of the game and Matt Schaub has stuck to short, quick vanilla passes. The rushing attack has been stuffed by the Jets defense, as well. The team has managed just eight yards on the ground on eight carries.

To be fair, they’re missing their two best play-makers in Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman. Still, it has not been pretty at all.

Penalties have also been an issue for Atlanta. The Falcons have given up 41 yards on five flags.

On defense, linebacker Duke Riley took a bad angle which helped the Jets score the first points of the game on a touchdown by Isaiah Crowell.

The star of the first half was Jets quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who completed seven of eight pass attempts for 85 yards and a touchdown before ceding his spot to rookie Sam Darnold, who also looked sharp. Darnold went 9/11 for 74 yards and a score of his own.

One guy who stood out is second-year nickel corner/free safety Damontae Kazee, who is flying all over the field and making plays on the ball. He finished the first half with ten combined tackles.

Hopefully we’ll see more positives in the second half.

Falcons Highlights: Watch DB Damontae Kazee make a tackle

0
0

It’s never a good sign when the best highlight from an entire half of football is a tackle. Still, for what it’s worth, this was a good one.

Watch Falcons defensive back Damontae Kazee wrap one of the Jets up.

Kazee was extremely active and had eight solo tackles in the first half and 10 total, including one for a loss.

Rookies Deadrin Senat and Foye Oluokun also looked good, but they’ll need some more help. The Falcons trail the Jets 17-0 and will get the ball to begin the second half.

Falcons Highlights: Kurt Benkert's first NFL pass was a beauty

0
0

The Falcons still haven’t scored against the Jets but at least their offense has gotten on the highlight reel.

Rookie quarterback Kurt Benkert came in to start the second half and the first throw of his NFL career was a beauty.

Watch Benkert complete a 27-yard throw to wide receiver Dontez Byrd.

Nicely done.

Falcons lose first preseason game to Jets, 17-0: Recap

0
0

The Falcons lost their first preseason contest of 2018 against the Jets by a score of 17-0. Here’s a recap of how things went in all three phases of what was a brutal game.

Offense

It doesn’t get much uglier than what Atlanta did with the ball tonight. They managed just one first down and 60 total yards in the first half. While it’s normal for teams to keep the playbook boring at this time of year, it was a pretty gruesome showing from the first and second-string players.

Things didn’t get going at all until the third quarter when undrafted rookie quarterback Kurt Benkert came onto the field and injected some life into the offense. Benkert showed he has some arm strength, some touch, and a little bit of mobility, to boot. He didn’t get much help from his offensive line, though. Benkert finished the game with 125 passing yards, averaging 7.4 yards per attempt.

Atlanta’s run game was awful and the team had just 49 yards on 22 carries. Devin Gray led all receivers with 83 yards on four catches.

Defense

It wasn’t hard to find a defensive MVP candidate for tonight’s game. Second-year hybrid DB Damontae Kazee was seemingly involved in every single tackle in the first half. Kazee played with the certain kind of controlled chaos that all great NFL safeties use. He managed a total of 11 combined tackles. Kazee’s performance is another reminder of how deep and versatile Atlanta’s secondary is.

Aside from Kazee, there wasn’t much to like on defense. Duke Riley is still making rookie mistakes and both Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold had their way with Atlanta’s backups. They combined for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Both had passer ratings over 100.

Rookies Deadrin Senat and Foye Oluokun both had strong debuts, though.

Special teams

Rookie kicker David Marvin did not get much of a chance to show what he could do in place of Matt Bryant, tonight. He only got one field goal attempt from 42 yards out in the closing moments but it was hurried and there wasn’t enough time for a proper setup and he missed wide right. Punter Matt Bosher got plenty of work, though. He posted 267 yards on six punts. Marvin Hall looks to be in the lead for the return specialist competition.
